History
Opened by the Bennett Family in 1973 as a Wine Bar, The Best Drop Tavern has been Kalamunda’s go-to for fantastic food and beverage for over 50 years.
In early July 1973, in the same week our current owner was eagerly anticipating her 5th Birthday, the Bennett family opened The Best Drop Tavern in Haynes St Kalamunda. On a visit to the UK, Len Bennett was awed by The Best Drop Tavern on The Royal Mile in Edinburgh (established in the 1600’s), and upon his return to Australia, joined forces with his son Myles in a dream to re-create an old-style English “hunting lodge”.
And my goodness, did he do it in spades – the ambience was decadent with dark woodwork panelling, opulent red and gold carpet that was commissioned from Axminster in England, a huge open log fire, soft lighting and cosy booths everywhere. It was the new place “to be seen” for the town, and signalled an important milestone in Kalamunda’s growth; our little village was now big enough to support two watering holes…
Since that time, a number of owners have come and gone, and many Kalamunda people have their fondest Best Drop memories during Craig Lowe’s long custodianship from the late 1970’s until the early 90’s. In all its time, The Drop has always endeavoured to provide a “point of difference” from our colleagues in the town, and has always made affordable, good quality pub meals the centre out of which the rest of the Tavern’s personality emanates…

PRESENT DAY
After Craig Lowe’s departure in the early 90’s, The Drop spent over twenty years in the hands of absent owners and out-of-towners until the current owner purchased the Tavern in September 2017. She is a born and bred Kalamunda gal, who has been in the pub industry for over 34 years, and has been completely in love with The Drop for even longer than that…
In the bar you will find a large range of spirits from quality house pours; to premium lines, and a cocktail list with both classic and contemporary, as well as an ever—changing Feature Cocktail. Our wine list changes seasonally, and whilst we love to show off our fantastic Western Australian product, we also put something in there for those looking to step outside the “comfort zone”. Because we have 16 different beers on tap, we know there will be something to suit all palates, including all your favourites, as well as new Feature Taps, which are changing all time.
Lastly, we try to make every occasion a “special occasion”, by ensuring our staff are always friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. And don’t forget we are Kalamunda’s longest standing independent, family owned bar and restaurant, and when you speak, we listen. Come and give us a try – you won’t be disappointed.
